Bowen is a non-invasive hands-on remedial treatment which can be administered through clothing uses a series of precise moves that creates activation of nerve endings at areas of dysfunction. This creates change in tissue and structure via the central nervous system.
The therapist uses a series of precise rolling type movements over skin, muscle and tendons, followed by “Bowen breaks” where the therapist leaves the room for 2-5 mins. Bowen works by releasing soft tissue and fascia and bringing the body back in to alignment. No excess force or manipulation or used.
Simply put, Bowen can help address the entire body and allow the body to reset.
Karen has also trained in Assessment Led Bowen Therapy ALBT. This is a powerful and effective way of treating muscular and structural issues in the body. This allows Karen to assess and treat the whole body and locate the primary source of the dysfunction in order to bring the body back into alignment.
My initial experience is within the sport and science field. I qualified with a BA (Hons) degree in Human Movement Studies at Carnegie College at Leeds Metropolitan University. After graduating I worked as a Duty Manager at a local sports center before undertaking a PGCSE in Physical Education and Biology. I then worked as a lecturer at the East Riding of Yorkshire College before leaving to start a family.
After working for several yeas as a massage therapist and reflexologist and experiencing severe back pain and sciatica I was introduced to Bowen Therapy by a fellow therapist who had been suffering with a frozen shoulder. After three treatments of Bowen Therapy my lower back pain and sciatica was greatly improved. I was amazed at how this apparently gentle therapy was so powerful and effective that I decided to train in it myself so that I could help my own clients.
In 2003 I trained with the European College of Bowen Studies and became a qualified Bowen Practitioner. Since then I have been able to help hundreds of clients to feel better.
I am based in the village of Brough in the East Riding of Yorkshire.and you can also find me at Beauty Bank, Westgate, Bridlington, YO16 4QQ
